Editorial Guidelines
How we create, review, and maintain everything you see and play on Word Online Games.
Our content principles
- Country-specific native content. Every locale targets a primary country (Mexico for Spanish, Brazil for Portuguese, France for French, etc.) and is written by a native speaker from that country.
- Zero machine translation. Not Google Translate, not DeepL, not Claude/GPT-4 as a translator. Native writers draft from scratch in their language. AI may assist with brainstorming or fact-checking but never produces published text.
- Cultural relevance. Examples, idioms, holidays, themed puzzles must be country-native — Día de los Muertos for Mexican Spanish, Bastille Day for French, Diwali for Hindi, etc.
- Every long-form piece reviewed. A second native speaker reviews game rules, strategy guides, blog posts, and FAQs before publishing.
Puzzle quality review
Different games have different review requirements:
- Daily Crossword (9×9 + Quick 5×5): EVERY puzzle reviewed by a per-locale content writer before publishing. Weekly batches reviewed each Monday for the next 7 days.
- Word Connections: EVERY daily puzzle hand-curated — categories must be culturally coherent and locally relevant.
- Spelling Bee: Letter set + difficulty reviewed monthly per locale.
- Hangman themed lists, Word Search themed packs: Reviewed once at creation; new themes added quarterly.
- Daily Word, Anagram, Word Chain: Word lists validated against authoritative dictionaries (RAE, ODS, Duden, hunspell-de, etc.); algorithmic puzzle selection — no per-puzzle review needed beyond the dictionary curation.
Writer qualifications
For every locale we commission writers who meet ALL of:
- Native speaker of the target language from the target country (preferred) or with deep cultural familiarity.
- Demonstrated word-puzzle expertise — published crosswords, professional puzzle constructors, or word-game journalists preferred.
- Verifiable identity (real-name attribution on author bios).
We commission via Fiverr Pro, Upwork Top Rated, or ProZ. Per Section 41.8 of our public plan, every locale launches only after both the writer and a separate native QA reviewer sign off.
Author attribution
Long-form content (blog posts, learn-pages) carries author attribution at the byline with a link to the author's bio page. Game rules + FAQ are collectively maintained by the per-locale content team.
